RBI Digital Lending Guidelines
Key guidelines from the Reserve Bank of India for digital loan borrowers.
Review the KFS & Total Cost
Before accepting a digital loan, review the Key Fact Statement (KFS), including the APR, all fees and charges, repayment terms and recovery mechanism.
Read Your Loan Documents
Read the KFS, sanction letter, loan agreement and privacy policy carefully. Keep the digitally signed documents sent to your registered email or mobile.
Protect Your Data
Check app permissions and privacy terms. Data collection should be need-based, with clear purpose and your explicit consent.
Use Authorised Payment Channels
Loan disbursal and repayment should use the bank-account/payment route authorised by the regulated lender; avoid third-party or LSP pass-through accounts.
Use the Grievance Mechanism
Contact the lender or LSP grievance channel for digital lending complaints. If the complaint is not satisfactorily resolved within 30 days, the RBI Complaint Management System (CMS) may be used where applicable.
Know the Cooling-Off Period
Check the cooling-off or look-up period stated in the KFS. During that period, the borrower should have the option to exit the digital loan by paying principal and proportionate applicable charges without an additional penalty, subject to the applicable terms.
